First, disconnect power and lock it out. Don't test live. Set the multimeter to continuity or the lowest ohms range. Put one probe on the enclosure's ground lug and the other on the door, the body, and any installed gland plate. A solid ground path should give a near-zero reading or a beep.

If you don't get a reading, it's often paint. Scrape a clean metal contact point under the hardware, then test again. Also check the door bond strap. A door that relies on hinges alone is not a reliable ground path.

What hidden costs should I budget for with Hoffman enclosures?
